H. CARMICHAEL RITES SATURD'Y

Hugh CARMICHAEL, 84, lifetime resident of this community passed away at his home, 302 East Jefferson, this morning about 4:37 o'clock. He had been seriously ill since Monday.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 o'clock from the Weston Behner Funeral Home. Rev. J. W. Stine will officiate. The I. O. O. F. Lodge No. 4 will have part in the services.

Mr. CARMICHAEL was the son of the late William and Mary CARMICHAEL. He was born July 4, 1861 in County Antrine, Ireland and came to this country at the age of 5 years. He was united in marriage to Nora VAUGHT on November 7, 1925.

He was a retired farmer and also a member of the Jefferson Lodge No. 4, I. O. O. F.

He is survived by his wife Nora and four daughters, Mrs. Edith SCHAFER, Ottumwa, Mrs. Effie JOHNSTON of Libertyville, Mrs. Elizabeth NIXON of Stockport and Mrs. Gladys CASTER of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Alex CARMICHAEL of Birmingham and James CARMICHAEL and William (sic. John William) CARMICHAEL both of Fairfield. Two sons, John and James and three sisters preceded him in death.

Sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Note: Hugh was buried in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. He was first married to Alveretta CROOKS in 1887. She and sons John and James mentioned in the obituary above are buried in Pattison cemetery, Jefferson county, Iowa. Hugh was next married to Mattie B. McMULLEN. She died in 1917 and is buried in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield in the McMULLEN family plot at 2nd.010. Hugh, as mentioned above, next married Nora E. VAUGHT. She was first married to William Lester VERNON. Nora and William are buried in Evergreen cemetery in 2nd.166, with Hugh buried beside them.

Two siblings of Hugh are also buried at Evergreen cemetery (Alexander/Alex and John William), along with their respective spouses and some family members. Hugh also has a daughter, Edith, also buried at Evergreen cemetery under the second married name of SCHAFER.

... A number of old neighbors and friends attended the funeral services for Hugh CARMICHAEL which were held at the Behner Funeral home in Fairfield Saturday afternoon. ...

... The James NIXON family spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Norah CARMICHAEL in Fairfield. Mrs. NIXON's sister, Mrs. Roy CASTER of Dayton, Ohio was also a guest in the home, having been called to Fairfield by the death of her father Hugh CARMICHAEL.
