Nan Belle BARKER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George BARKER, 616 West Stone street, passed away Thursday evening, May 24. The end came as the result of an illness which has lasted for several years, although she has only been confined to her bed for the past ten days. Since then she gradually became weaker, until the end finally came and relieved her of all suffering.
Nan was born near Keosauqua, Van Buren county, Nov. 29, 1903, being at the time of her death 13 years, 5 months and 25 days of age. Beside her sorrowing parents, she is survived by one sister, Margaret, her grandparents and a host of relatives.
Nan was a very bright, lovable child, and will be sadly missed by scores of little friends with whom she was a great favorite. She was a loving, dutiful daughter, and a strong bond of affection existed between her and her parents.
While loving them dearly, she told them that if Jesus wanted her she was ready to go.
She attended the Baptist Sunday school and during the last few days of her illness, she repeatedly asked her schoolmates amd parents to sing her favorite songs which seemed to rest her. As the end drew near she spoke of her firm faith in Jesus Christ and asked her uncle to pray with her.
The funeral services will be held from the home Saturday, May 26, at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. A. R. Toothacre. Her body will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

Note: Nan was buried in an unmarked grave in the Barker family plot, SDiv.1-008, in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. She was the daughter of George A Barker and Mary Margaret BREWINGTON BARKER. She was preceded in death by an infant sibling in 1915 and a brother Stanley A BARKER in 1913. Her two siblings are also buried in this plot but are also without headstones installed for them. The parents have a headstone on the south edge of the east half of the plot where this family of five is buried.
Nan was born Nov. 29, 1903 and died May 24, 1917.
