Orphabelle Pequignot, 90, of 404 S. Fourth St., in Fairfield, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 19, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

She was the youngest child of Westly James and Elsie Jane Stuck Liggett. She was born Oct. 15, 1912, near Alexis, Ill. She was married to Lewis A. Pequignot Nov. 30, 1939. He is surviving.

Orphabelle worked at many things during her lifetime. Farming, Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield Glove and Mitten; Overall factory in Oskaloosa, Standard Colesmen, Ottumwa, Iowa. She cooked at Fremond schools and drove a school bus for Ottumwa Transit.

The couple farmed near Fairfield, Haysville and Fremont. They retired on an acreage in East Plesant Plain and lived there until moving to Fairfield.

Orphabelle enjoyed hoeing in her garden, painting any surface that needed it, and showing draft ponies with her family.

Her parents, all her brothers and sisters prceded her in death. Stella Stewart, Letha Paige, Effie Nelson, Martha Nelson, Lloyd Liggett and William Liggett.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband Lewis, her daughter, Sonda Jane Petermann, son-in-law, Larry Petermann of Grinnell; Chanda Elizabeth Petermann of West Des Moines; her sister-in-law, and husband, Shirley and Emil Heston Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Behner Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating.

The Pequignot family wants to invite family and friends to a gathering at the VFW following the memorial service.
