Inez PENCE

Inez Irene PENCE, 96, formerly of 303 W. Hempstead Ave., died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at Jefferson County Hospital.

She was born Feb. 3, 1898, near Batavia, to George B. and Ida L. FELL PEBLER. She grew up in the Batavia community and lived in Ottumwa before her marriage to Harold R. PENCE on Sept. 3, 1927, at the Christian parsonage in Bethany, Mo. They lived their entire married lives in Fairfield.

PENCE worked for 35 years at the women's fashion shop Lanes and Roxie's before her retirement in 1964. She was a charter member of the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are eight nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 5, 1986; two brothers, Wayne and Glen PEEBLER; and two sisters, Faye McDOWELL and Irma COPELAND.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home, the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to First Christian Church.
