Worker Stricken, Dies In Tavern

County authorities were attempting today to contact relatives of Benn (sic) VOSS, about 67, who died of a heart attack yesterday afternoon. in the South Side tavern.

VOSS had been living near Libertyville while working with a logging crew in Jefferson county. Tavern employees told officers that he had become ill earlier in the day. A doctor was summoned, but VOSS refused to go to the local hospital or to his home, they said.

He died at 5:15 p.m. VOSS' home is believed to be near Red Oak, but authorities have been unable to contact any relatives in that area. The body is at the Hoskins Funeral Home.

Hold Rites Today For Ben VOSS, 67

Last rites for Ben VOSS, Jefferson county resident who died suddenly Thursday afternoon, were scheduled to be held this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The services were to be graveside services at the McCleary cemetery southwest of Fairfield with Dr. E. A. Piper in charge.

VOSS died in the Southside tavern about 5:00 p.m. Thursday after a doctor has examined him and told him to enter the hospital or go home.

An autopsy performed on the body yesterday revealed that he died of a massive pulmonary embolism.

Ben VOSS was born in 1888, the son of the late Christian and Anna EHLERS VOSS. A veteran of world war 1, he came to this community several years ago.

At the time of his death he was living alone about six miles southwest of Fairfield.

He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Charles VOSS, Emil VOSS and Mrs. Rudolph SIVERS, Walnut, Iowa; and Mrs. Lena RETHWISCH, Portland, Oregon.

Arrangements for the services were made by the Hoskins funeral home.
