DEATH OF ASA CHILCOTT, SR.

Asa CHILCOTT, sr., died at his home in Salina Monday morning.... Mr. CHILCOTT was born in Huntingdon county, Penn., April 4th, 1821, where he grew to manhood. He came to this county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard CHILCOTT, in 1844, and was the last survivor of the family. He was married here to Elizabeth PARK, May 20th, 1847, and the wife died in 1871 (sic - April 29, 1881). Four children were born to them, Clark, Miles, Martha, now Mrs. Samuel McMULLIN of Tekamah, Neb., and Mrs. Arabelle BALYEAT of this city. Only the daughters are now living. July 22d, 1894, Mr. CHILCOTT was married to Miss Jessie L. HALL, who survives him. He was a resident of this county from 1844 to 1856, when he removed to Nebraska, located the first farm in the Arizona bottoms, Burt County, and was one of the early settlers about Tekamah. He was also identified with many of the early events about Salina and was present at the meeting which selected a name for the town.... A brief funeral service was held at the home yesterday by Rev. T. S. Pool, and the body was then taken to Tekamah, where other members of the family lie, for interment. T. B. ALLENDER, whose wife was an adopted daughter, accompanied it. The pall bearers were six nephews: M. R. COLLINS, O. L. FRY, Asa CHILCOTT, jr., A. J. GREEN, Marshall CHILCOTT and Marshall MILLER.
