"RICHLAND, Mar. 3. Last week Richland lost her oldest inhabitant, the late venerable citizen, Morrison Bottorff, who was born the last year of the late war with Great Britain, 1815, and was in his 83d year. He was born near Louisville, Ky., and married Miss Mary Kincaid in 1835. He was the second sheriff elected in Keokuk County, Iowa, and was also elected from the same county as a member of the legislature, when it was held at Iowa City, before railroad time, when he had to travel by stage coach and water. He later moved to Black Hawk township, Jefferson County, Iowa, where he was repeatedly elected justice of the peace for a period of 30 years. . . . ."
