"PLEASANT PLAIN. Leonard Pickard, East Pleasant Plain, has received word of the death of his brother, Hugh Pickard, 86, who died Monday in a nursing home at West Bend, Wis. A former resident of Pleasant Plain, had been in ill health for some time. Burial will be in a cemetery at Star, Idaho. He was an only brother of Leonard Pickard."

"Hugh B. Pickard was born Oct 19 1879 near Pleasant Plain, Iowa. Educated in local schools. After graduating from Pleasant Plain Academy, he attended Penn College and in 1898 and 1899 went to Univ. of Michigan. He returned to Pleasant Plain and on Sept 18, 1901 married Ila Allerdice. They resided on a farm until 1905 when they moved to Boise Valley, Idaho. In May 1901 (?) they returned to Brighton, Iowa, at which time he became an employee of the Standard Oil Co. As he advanced with the company, they moved him to different places. He retired in 1944; returned to Pleasant Plain in 1945. Was employed by the tax commission of Iowa. Later moved to Boise. Celebrated 60th anniversary in 1961; Mrs. Pickard died in 1963. In 1964 moved to Wisconsin to be near his daughter where he died Apr 18 1966. Birthright member of Pleasant Plain Friends Church. . . . .At time of death he was a member of the Cathedral of the Rockies Methodist Church of Boise, Idaho, where the last rites were held. Member Masonic Lodge of Brighton and a 50 year member of UCT. Survived by daughter, Mrs. Eugene Schmidt (Marjorie) of Milwaukee, Wisc.; a son Russell Pickard, of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Eugene Brinton (Lucile) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and a brother Leonard W. Pickard of East Pleasant Plain, Iowa. . . . .Buried in a cemetery at Star, Idaho, which he, with other pioneers of that early 1900 era, had planned. His wife and many old friends and relatives are buried there also."
