ROSS, Helen J. -- Helen J. ROSS, 87, formerly of Bonaparte, died at 5:50 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

ROSS, Helen J. -- Helen J. ROSS, 87, of Burlington, formerly of Bonaparte, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A memorial service will be held May 5 in Bonaparte, with burial of cremains in Spencer Cemetery, rural Stockport.

A memorial will be designated later.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is assisting the family.

Mrs. ROSS was born May 5, 1923, in rural Stockport, the daughter of Carl and Nina SWAILES JOHNSON. She married Guy H. "Ted" ROSS June 8, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Feb. 9, 1999.

Mrs. ROSS graduated from Stockport High School. She and her husband lived in Mount Pleasant before moving in 1950 to Bonaparte, where Mr. ROSS operated a plumbing and heating business. Mrs. ROSS had been a cook at Bonaparte Elementary School and was the pie baker for Bonaparte Retreat Restaurant.

Survivors include one son, Michael ROSS and wife Sally of Lake of Ozarks, Mo.; two daughters, Penny POOLE and husband Kirby of Nevada and Tammie ALLSUP and husband Rory of Burlington; six grandchildren; and one sister, Lorrayne SHRYER of Fresno, Calif.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon ROSS; and one brother, Jim JOHNSON.

Helen J. ROSS, 87, of Burlington, formerly of Bonaparte, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bonaparte United Church.

Memorials to Bonaparte EMTs or March of Dimes may be taken to the service or may be mailed to the family at 12124 Celestia, Burlington 52601.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
