"Perry Gilbert Cole died at his home near East Pleasant Plain June 30. . . . .Born on a farm in Walnut township July 29 1855. His father died while serving in the Union Army during the Civil War and the family later moved to Penn township. Mr. Cole operated a blacksmith shop on the farm west of Pleasant Plain and for a few years but 38 years ago opened a shop at Pleasant Plain and here built his reputation as a master of his trade. After the railroad was moved from Pleasant Plain, Mr. Cole also moved his shop to the new town. Married Laura E. Williams; eight children: Harlan and Gilbert of Ames; Mrs. Nellie Tefft of Tucson, Ariz.; Hugh of Brighton; Mrs. Maggie Brainard of Galena, Ill.; Lucy of Calif.; and Clifford and Alice of East Pleasant Plain. Also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mattie Staats of Missouri, a brother Will Cole of Nebr., and a half-brother, George Dickinson of Pleasant Plain. Burial in Friends Cem. at Pleasant Plain."
