SCHEWE, Wilmer Fred Henry -- Wilmer Fred Henry SCHEWE, 86, of rural Douds, died after a brief illness at 9:11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fairfield, with the Rev. Mark Brase officiating. Burial, with military honors by American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Douds.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
Memorials to Douds Fire Department and First Responders or Lutheran Hour may be left at the church or may be mailed to P.O. Box 163, Douds 52551.
Mr. SCHEWE was born July 5, 1924, in Spanish Lake, Mo., the son of William and Ida MEYER SCHEWE. He married Fae SADLER May 5, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. SCHEWE graduated from high school in Jennings, Mo., and attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he earned a certificate in chemical engineering. Mr. SCHEWE worked at McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis. He also had farmed southwest of Douds, served as general superintendent of Douds Stone Inc. and worked as a sales representative for Schaefer Manufacturing Company.
Mr. SCHEWE served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fairfield, Lutheran Layman's League and American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 of Douds. He had served 15 years on the Cardinal Community School Board.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ruth McANDREWS and husband John of Davenport and Mary BOSSARD and husband Gerald of Madison, Ala.; one son, Karl SCHEWE of Clinton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Edward OLHEIDE; and one sister, Marie SCHEWE.
