SOBASKI, Lucille Francis SIMMONS -- Lucille Francis SIMMONS SOBASKI, 78, of Brighton, died at 11:54 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saints Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, East Pleasant Plain.

Family visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the church, with Prayers for a Christian Wake at 7 p.m.

Memorials to St. Joseph Cemetery, Brighton Volunteer First Responders or American Cancer Society may be left at the church or may be mailed to the family at 3245 Dogwood Ave., Brighton 52540.

Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Mrs. SOBASKI was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Belle Plain, the daughter of William Earnest and Bertha Mary HASLEY SIMMONS. She married Richard James SOBASKI Feb. 20, 1954, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa.

Mrs. SOBASKI grew up in Ottumwa. She graduated from Ottumwa Heights Academy in 1950 and Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She and her husband raised their family and made their living farming in the Brighton community. Mrs. SOBASKI also worked as a registered nurse for many years, including as a head nurse at both Washington County Hospital and Jefferson County Hospital.

Mrs. SOBASKI was a member of Saints Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church and Saint Joseph's Altar and Rosary Society. Throughout her life, she supported and participated in several political action groups representing her conservative values.

Mrs. SOBASKI enjoyed organizing and hosting family reunions, following her grandchildren's activities and tracking the stock market, commodities and current events.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Brenda MORRIS and husband Dennis of Prole; two sons, Tony SOBASKI and wife Karla of Brighton and Don SOBASKI and wife Kara of Brighton; one sister, Dorothy FRIES of Trenton, Mo.; and one brother, Don SIMMONS of Blair, Wis.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Herb, Earl, Joe and Bill; and three sisters, Evelyn, Irene and Rachel.
