Mrs. THOMAS Dead.

In regard to the death of the mother of H.D. THOMAS of this city the Hedrick Journal says: - The remains were taken to Fairfield for interment in the Fairfield cemetery. Mrs. THOMAS had lived in Hedrick for several years, and was a lady of estimable qualities and modest worth. Her sons, Wilson and Harry THOMAS, had left only a short time before her death and were called home by telegrams announcing their mother's death. Lydia A. DAY was born March 13, 1833, in Washington county, Pennsylvania. She was married in 1851, to Henry G. THOMAS, who died October 10, 1876 (sic. also reported as October 14, 1876 in other sources). They removed to Jefferson county in 1856. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. THOMAS, five of whom are living: H.D. THOMAS, of Fairfield; R.S. THOMAS of Ottumwa; Wilson THOMAS, Leonora THOMAS and Mrs. Emma A CRAWFORD of Hedrick.

Note: This obituary notice was found by this contributor in the microfilm records of newspapers at the Fairfield Public Library for the express purpose of clarifying the year of death. Three sources had been found that used November 1901 as the death/burial date. However, when this contributor went to Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa to take headstone photos for this THOMAS family it was observed that the headstone death year for Lydia was engraved 1906. Given that this obituary notice was published on Nov. 28, 1906 it appears that the plat transcription or cemetery records had entered 1901 instead of 1906.

Lydia A DAY THOMAS is buried in the THOMAS family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. Old.P.333
