JAMES A. BECK DIED SUDDENLY
Prominent Resident of this City Stricken at 11:30 Today; Funeral Pending

James A. BECK, prominent resident of this city for many years, passed away suddenly this morning about 11:30 o'clock at his apartment over 61 West Broadway, after being stricken with apoplexy. Mr. BECK had been spending the summer at his summer home at Lake Okoboji and had just returned to this city, Sept. 26. Mrs. BECK will come tonight from Lake Okoboji.

Mr. BECK was prominently identified with Fairfield's business interests for many years, being proprietor of the Leggett Hotel until he sold out about 25 years ago to Chester and Trowbridge. He then went to Lake Okoboji which was becoming a noted summer resort for Iowans and he started a hotel there which he retained for a number of years. He also conducted the John Jacob Astor House at Mackinac Island, Mich, for some time. For several years he had been spending his winters in California and he had been planning to go there in the near future.

Mr. BECK was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. BECK and he was 81 years and 6 months old. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Esther McKESSON, and one brother, David R. BECK of Los Angeles, Calif. Two sisters and a brother, Fanny M., Kate W. and Charles E. have preceded him in death.

No funeral arrangements will be made until the arrival of Mrs. BECK tonight.
