POOL, Wesley Wayne -- Wesley Wayne POOL, 94, of Douds, died late Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at home.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Leando Cemetery in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

Memorials to Woolson Friends Church of Richland or to a charity of the donor's choice may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 14022 Walnut St., Douds 52551.

Mr. POOL was born May 17, 1916, in Leando, the son of Fred C. and Opal AKERMAN POOL. He married Jane HINSHAW May 17, 1940, in Ottumwa.

Mr. POOL grew up in the Douds and Leando area. He attended Keosauqua schools and graduated from Douds High School in 1936. He operated White Sewing Machine departments in leading department stores in Kansas City, Mo.; Peoria, Ill.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Sacramento, Calif.; San Diego, Calif.; and Cedar Rapids. In 1957, he operated Singer Sewing Mahcine stores in California and Nevada, including the first United States dealership in Butte, Mont. Mr. POOL retired from the sewing machine business in 1979 and began building homes in Helena, Mont. He retired again and lived in Helena and Las Vegas and traveled throughout the United States before returning to Douds in 2006.

Mr. POOL served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a dental technichan in Idaho and California.

Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Gladys FITE of Floris and Kathryn WELLER of Douds; and one brother, Donald S. POOL of Eldon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eva ANDREWS MILLER and Margaret BAILEY.
