Cyril R. RAYMOND

Cyril R. RAYMOND, 89, of 1967 Kelp Ave., died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Normal Channel officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military rites. Open visitation will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The family will receive friends from 4 - 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fairfield Free Methodist Church or the Diabetes Association.

Mr. RAYMOND was born Dec. 15, 1909, at Vicksburg, Miss., the son of Roy B. and Bessie CLINKINBEARD (sic. a/k/a CLINKENBEARD) RAYMOND. He married Marjorie L. BRERETON Nov. 6, 1946, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield.

He grew up in Fairfield. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years from 1928-1934. He worked as a pressman at the Fairfield Daily Ledger. He worked at The Dexter Co. from 1937 until his retirement in 1971.

He served as first sergeant with 133rd Service Company, 34th Infantry Division, of the National Guard. He was inducted in 1941 and discharged from active duty in 1945. He was with the 1st Battle Group serving in the European Theater of Operations. He received the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Soldier's Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He served for more than 30 years as he re-enlisted in 1946 and retired in December 1961 with the rank of chief warrant officer 4.

Mr. RAYMOND was a member of Fairfield Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Alice WICKHAM of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Nancy CURD of Irvine, Calif.; one son, Donald C. RAYMOND of Branson, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Myrtle KURTZ; and five brothers, Mace, Arthur, Cedric, Jack and Richard.
