CAPT. FORREST IS DEAD.

Capt. M.W. FORREST, member of a pioneer family of Jefferson County, died at Chehalis, Wash., where he had lived for several years, the 24th ult. Mr. FORREST was born in Indiana Sept. 26th 1833, and came to Lee County, this state, with his parents when a child of four years. The family removed to Polk township, this county, in 1844. He was married to Miss Hattie SMITH in 1859, and they had eight children, five of whom, with the mother, are living. When the Civil War came, Mr. FORREST was a merchant and postmaster at Martinsburg. He sold his business, resigned his office, recruited Company F, Thirty-third Iowa Infantry, and was elected captain. He had a fine military record, but was compelled by ill health to quit the service in August 1863. Capt. FORREST was one of the largest land holders in Polk township when he removed to the Pacific Coast. He was a man of character, of undoubted honesty and integrity, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
