Miss HAWN DAMM came to Glendale from Jockey Hollow and later became the assistant Post Mistress and held this position until her step-father, Michael DAMM, died (sic. Michael DAMM Sr. died in 1905). She then became Post Mistress and served in the two positions for a period of 43 years.

In her girlhood she professed her faith in the Lord Jesus and became a member of the Roman Catholic church.

Transcriber note: The first death notice and subsequent obituary for Mary DAMM allude to her birth surname as "HAWN" (father John HAWN). That surname has been found in several sources as having multiple variations, which could affect genealogy searches. The headstone for her biological father at Union Cemetery is "John HOWN". His probate documents of 1856/1857 are filed under the surname "HOUN". There are further variations found within his probate materials.

Family researchers of this family should consider these variations when documenting this individual on a family tree. Mary was put under the guardianship of Michael DAMM Sr. by the time of John HOWN/HOUN's probate in 1856. Michael married Dorathea, the wife of John HOWN/HOUN and mother of Mary, in 1858.

Additional note: The headstone for Mary DAMM is engraved with the dates "1854-1928". She died on September 30, 1927.
