May 24, 1903Died at his home in the city (Fairfield, Ia) early Mon., morning. He had been in ill health more than a year past, sufferin from eczema which with complications, caused his death. He was born in Guilford Co., N.C. June 2nd, 1836. Earlier year of life were spent in Jennings Co., Ind. when his parents moved in 1838. In 1854 the family came to this county (Jefferson) and located in Buchanan Twp. And with exception of a few years in Wayne Co., remainder of life spent here. Married in Buchanan Twp. Feb. 15, 1861 to Miss Samantha Jane McCormick, who survives him. They were the parents of 6 sons and 3 daughters, all latter dying in early ages. Sons J.E., Chadren, Nebr., Rev. W.L., Muscatine, G.W., Marshland, Nebr., C.H., Marshall J. and Vernon H. of this county. Mr. Clapp was member of the First Methodist Church, of the city for many years. He lead an active life, was progressive in methods of farming and prominent and influencial member of the county in which he lived. An excellent man and exemplory citizen. Funeral services were held at First Chruch yesterday at 2 o'clock. Conducted by Rev. J.E. Corley and Rev. Alex Corkey and body was interned in Bethesda Cemetery, east of city Wed. May 27.
