SHE WAS FAIRFIELD'S OLDEST RESIDENT

Mrs. Electa WALLACE GAGE, who died in this city Saturday night, was the oldest resident of Fairfield. With her husband, the late E. S. GAGE, she removed here from Alton, Ill., in December, 1838, and her residence in Fairfield had been continuous to the time of her death.

Mrs. GAGE was a native of New Hampshire. She was born February 2d, 1807, shortly after midnight, and died at 10:30 p.m. February 1st, 1896, having just completed her eighty-ninth year. She had been in feeble health for some time past, with no particular dimise apparent, and her death was doubtless due to the general debility attending old age. Mr. and Mrs. GAGE were married in Acworth, New Hampshire, May 20th, 1827, and after spending a few years in that state and Vermont, removed to Alton, Ill., in 1838. In the year following they came to this city, where the husband died May 26th, 1859. Two children were born to them, Cranmore W., at Hartford, Vt., May 29, 1828, and Theodore S., in Fairfield, August 30, 1844, both of whom still reside here.

Mrs. GAGE was not only one of the first women to make her home in this little western village, but for many years, and, in fact, until the infirmities of age began to come upon her she was a landing spirit in church and social life. A member of the Congregational church almost from childhood, she was an earnest christian woman, and for her faith and good works was loved and esteemed by all who came within the circle of her acquaintances. Funeral services were held at the old home on West Broadway yesterday afternoon by Rev. A.F. Marsh, pastor of the Congregational church, and the remains were interred in the City cemetery.
