FRANK MOYER, 94, SUCCUMBS

Death came last night to one of Fairfield and Jefferson county's oldest residents. He was Frank W. MOYER, 94, who had spent all of his life's span of nearly a century in this community.

He passed away about 11:00 p.m. at the Jefferson county hospital where he had been a patient since January 14.

Last rites will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. L.L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Frank W. MOYER was born December 4, 1854, on a farm northeast of Fairfield, the son of the late R.M. and Elizabeth EIKENBERRY (sic.) MOYER. Until he moved to Fairfield in 1921, he spent his entire life on that farm and one nearby.

Due to his father's failing health he began farming when a young boy. He performed many heavy tasks that developed a sturdy constitution and strong muscular frame that carried him through a long and useful life.

Mr. MOYER attended the school near his home, and later Atcheson's academy at Mr. Pleasant and the Denmark academy, at that time rated as one of the best in the state. Later he taught school in Jefferson county for four winters.

He was united in marriage on October 17, 1883, near Brighton to Lizzie HART. Mrs. MOYER passed away February 27, 1933.

Mr. MOYER was a prominent farmer in the county for many years, and until a few years ago was known as the oldest active farmer in the community. Even after he moved to Fairfield from the farm in 1921, he drove back and forth for years to manage its operation.

He had lived at the Turner hotel for over 14 years, and he continued his daily trips to his farm until early 1944. In addition to regular farming, Mr. MOYER also fed livestock for market. He has always taken a vast interest in farming and livestock feeding, and was a pioneer member of Local 415 of the Farmer's Union.

Mr. MOYER is survived by two children: Ralph H. MOYER, Washington, D.C.; and Mrs. Mabel A HUSTON, East Lansing, Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
