A Life-long Resident of This City; Funeral Arrangements Are Not Completed
Mrs. John A SPIELMAN passed away last evening at about 10 oclock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.C. WHITING, 121 South Main street. She has been in failing health during the winter month but has been able to be about the house. Funeral arrangements have not been completed awaiting word from relatives in California.
Christina HERSHBERGER (sic. HIRSHBERGER) was born June 2, 1840 in Lancaster, O., and in 1850 was brought to Jefferson county by her parents, Godfrey and Carolina HERSHBERGER (sic. HIRSHBERGER), who were natives of Germany. On April 24, 1860 she was united in marriage to Capt. John A. SPIELMAN. To this union were born six children, Henry A. of Hollywood, John G. of Long Beach, Mrs. H.C. WHITING and Fred A. of Fairfield, Mrs. F.W. HARRISON of Los Angeles and Mrs. Dillion (sic. Dillon) TURNEY of this city. Capt. SPIELMAN passed away eleven years ago.

Transcriber note: While the obituary uses the surname HERSHBERGER, the correct spelling should be HIRSHBERGER. At the least, the HIRSHBERGER spelling is what is engraved on her crypt at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa where she is buried. Alternate spellings sometimes occurred depending on who provided the information. This was one of those cases.
