Mrs. Wm. Roberts, old and respected resident of the McDowell neighborhood, died May 6, 1923 at her home 11 m. north of Fairfield. Funeral was at Woolson Church w. burial at Friends Cem. Richland, IA. Born Martha A. Cardwell on Nov. 1, 1850 in Callaway Co., KY, her family moved to MO in her early childhood. Her parents both died leaving her an orphan at age 11. On Feb. 26 1874 in Jefferson Co., IA she married Wm. Roberts who survives. She is preceded in death by oldest son James who died in infancy and youngest dau. Mrs. Ralph Roberts(Bertha) who died a few weeks ago. She is survived by son Harlan of 8 miles north of the city, son Charles of 3 miles west of the city, and dau. Mrs. Ernest Neville(Beulah) of 10 miles north of the city. Also two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pratt of Kansas City, MO and Mrs. Elizabeth Babbitt of MO. Mr. & Mrs. Roberts have resided on their farm for the past 7 years and prior to that had lived in Fairfield on S. 3rd St. for 9 years.
