MEYER, Norman Dean -- Norman Dean MEYER, 87, of Wayland, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Darrell Zook officiating. A family graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at the church, with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials have been established to Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Parkview Retirement Home and Crooked Creek Christian Camp.

Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. MEYER was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Trenton, the son of Benjamin C. MEYER and Maude Mae WYSE. He married Doris Jean EIGSTI Nov. 22, 1945.

As a young man, Mr. MEYER volunteered for Civilian Public Service, working in a mental hospital in New Jersey and on dam projects in South Dakota. Following his voluntary service, he and his wife farmed near Wayland. He later worked for many years as elevator manager and then director of transportation for Yoder Feeds.

Mr. MEYER was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

Mr. MEYER was active on many Wayland community and Henry County boards.

In his later years, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida and keeping up with family, friends and church activities.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, R.D. and wife Brenda of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Robert and wife Karen of Wayland; one daughter, Kathy SCHOOLEY and husband Dave of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Donald; and two infant sisters, Katherine and Jane.
