BOYLAND, Herbert L. -- Herbert L. BOYLAND, 89, of Fairfield, died Tuesday morning, May 26, 2009, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A celebration of life service will be at 8 p.m. today at 306 W. Stone Ave., with refreshments preceding the celebration at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. BOYLAND was born in Carneys Point, N.J.

Mr. BOYLAND graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1942. He was in the United States Army in the European and Asian theaters during World War II and was decommissioned as a captain. He worked as a chemical engineer for 40 years. He moved to Fairfield in 2007 to join the medical community and to be near his children.

Mr. BOYLAND served as an elder in his local Presbyterian churches and was a volunteer in many community service organizations.

Survivors include four children, Patricia KERR of Dalkeith, Ontario, Richard BOYLAND of Fairfield, Phil BOYLAND of Gainesville, Fla., and Elaine POMFREY of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

His wife of 57 years, Edith, preceded him in death in 2001.
