CRAWFORD, Lola Marie -- Lola Marie CRAWFORD died at the Jefferson County Hospital in her sleep on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.

She was born on December 25, 1929 at Indianola, IA. Her parents were Alma (HAKES) and Merle CRAWFORD. Her two sisters were Phyllis and Laura Jean. She was a graduate of Indianola High School.

She married, and later divorced, Harry HORN. They lived in Des Moines, Winterset, Tama, and Cedar Falls. They had four children: Mike, Gary, Jeff, and Patricia (Tricia). While in Des Moines, she was the coordinator of in-home day care for the Woodland Children's Center. She also owned and managed a Kwik Shop.

A primary love of hers was art. She attended various classes and workshops at the Des Moines Art Center. Her portfolio included many media: pencil sketches, pastels, water color, tempra, and oils. Her subject matter ranged from landscapes to political commentary. She also volunteered for set design at the Des Moines Playhouse and for various services at the Des Moines Botanical Center.

She retired and moved to Fairfield in 1988. While here she continued her art work by volunteering her skills for set design for both Fairfield Area Community Theatre and the Fairfield High School Drama Club. She also assisted with child care in her daughter's home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Phyllis. She is survived by an extensive family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Mike and Cheryl HORN of DuBois, WY. Their four children include: Jason and LeAnn HORN, and their daughter Shelby; Cole and Ann Marie, and their children, Alex and Addi; Abby and Douglas BREMER, and their sons, Remington and Louden; and Elli HORN. Jeff and Sara HORN of Des Moines. Their children include Andy, Robby, and Joey. Gary HORN of New York, NY. Tricia (HORN) and Scott SLECHTA of Fairfield. Their children include: Margaret, Emily, Claire, and Price.

Family services and burial will be at Indianola, IA. Memorial contributions will be given to the Fairfield Art Association or the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center. Please send all cards and memorial gifts to: Scott & Tricia SLECHTA; 407 East Madison Avenue; Fairfield, IA 52556.
