MATHIAS, Junior F. -- Junior F. MATHIAS, 79, of rural Birmingham, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery, north of Douds.
Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present form 7-8 p.m.
Memorials to the family or American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 15232 Juniper Trail, Birmingham 52535.
Mr. MATHIAS was born Aug. 24, 1939, in Martinez, Calif., the son of George and Bessie RANSOM MATHIAS. He married Rowena LAGLE Sept. 4, 1948, in Davenport.
Mr. MATHIAS graduated from Selma High School. He spent his life farming in the Selma, Douds and Birmingham area. He also worked as a custodian at Van Buren Community District schools in Douds and Keosauqua.
In retirement, Mr. MATHIAS enjoyed woodworking and making oak furniture.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard Wayne MATHIAS and wife Gloria of Birmingham; one daughter, Sheila HAMLET and husband Grant of Salem, Mo.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford MATHIAS of Rochester, N.Y., and Roy MATHIAS of Russell; and two sisters, Marie SUTTON of Rochester, N.Y., and Barbara CRUM of Bondurant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter, Sherry Jean MATHIAS; and two grandchildren.
