SCHIMMELS, Lynn H. -- Lynn H. SCHIMMELS, 78, of Fairfield, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center, with the Rev. Keevin Koch officiating. According to Mr. SCHIMMEL's wishes, the body has been cremated. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in Chapel Hills Gardens Cemetery in OakBrook Terrace, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Fairfield Senior Citizen Center. Cards and memorials may be sent to 501 W. Jefferson Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Mr. SCHIMMELS was born March 30, 1930, in Naponee, Neb., the son of Antone and Josie Gertrude HAYS SCHIMMELS. He married Imogene BAILEY March 17, 1956. She died Sept. 12, 1994.

Mr. SCHIMMELS was a U.S. veteran, having served in the Korean conflict.

He was a member of the Fairfield community for the past 13 years. He was a laborer for Assembled Circuits and retired in 1995.

Mr. SCHIMMELS enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals in his recreational vehicle, and his interests included car races, collecting clocks, shopping and repairing small engines. He was a caller at senior citizens' Bingo.

Survivors include a special companion, Eileen HARPER of Fairfield; three children, Glenna SASSER and husband James of Crystal River, Fla., Billie MONTOYA of Polo, Ill., and Gerald AUSMAN and wife Pam of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen MORFORD and Irene SITTS; and five brothers, Merle, Wayne, Winfred, DeLoyd and Gerald SCHIMMELS.
