WHITMORE, C. 'LeRoy' -- C. "LeRoy" WHITMORE, 85, of Fairfield, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A graveside inurnment service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. The body has been cremated.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Eagles Club No. 1927 or Hospice of Central Iowa. Cards and memorials may be sent to 2374 200th St., Fairfield 52556.

Mr. WHITMORE was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Jefferson County, the son of William Levi and Vada Rae PURDUE WHITMORE. He married Vera RIGGS Nov. 26, 1944. She died Jan. 8, 1988.

Mr. WHITMORE was a graduate of Fairfield High School. He farmed his own acres.

Mr. WHITMORE was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield. He was a member of Eagles Lodge Club No. 1927. [Ed note: Eagles' Clubs are not Lodges, but Aeries.]

He enjoyed playing cribbage, snooker and pool and woodworking. He loved to spend time with family.

Survivors include two children, Sherry EHRHARDT and husband Jerry of Fairfield and Wayne WHITMORE and wife Diana of Edna, Texas; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
