ARCHIBALD, Carl "Curly" -- Carl "Curly" ARCHIBALD, 91, of Keosauqua, died at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom and the Rev. ellis andrews (sic - lower case) officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113, will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Open visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Memorials to Van Buren County Hospital Village Terrace may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at PO Box 116, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. ARCHIBALD was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Selma, the son of Ray C. and Ethel HENDERSON ARCHIBALD. He married Anna Marie BUTTS June 23, 1940, in Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa. She died Jan. 22, 2001.

Mr. ARCHIBALD attended grade school in Floris and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1935. He taught school for two years and worked at Miller's Market & Grocery in Ottumwa from 1938-1942.

Mr. ARCHIBALD was drafted into the United States Army in September 1942. He served in the field artillery in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and Germany and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and the battles of central Europe and the Rhine River.

He and his brother bought Tucker's Grocery in Keosauqua April 23, 1946. They built the new store in November 1956.

Mr. ARCHIBALD was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113 in Keosauqua and Riverview Club. He was a member of Fairfield Elks Lodge. He was a former member of Keosauqua Rotary Club and Keosauqua Commercial Club.

He enjoyed golfing and sports.

Survivors include two sons, Michael L. ARCHIBALD and wife Betty of Keosauqua and Douglas R. ARCHIBALD and wife Delilah of Bloomington, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ronald, Paul and Walter ARCHIBALD.
