ALBERT HOWELL DIED YESTERDAY (Apr. 1).
A Civil War Veteran and a life-long resident of the Glasgow vicinity, died yesterday morning at 2:30 o'clock at his home two miles southeast of Glasgow. He made his home with his son, Parvin Howell, on the farm where he was born and raised and where his whole life has been spent. Mr. Howell was the son of Thomas and Thytha Howell, born July 12, 1840; died Apr. 1, 1923, aged 82 years 8 months and 20 days. Enlisted in 1862, Co. G, 30th Iowa Vol. Inf., and participated in the siege of Vicksburg and in the famous battle above the clouds on Lookout Mtn., having been detached from Sherman's command by the breaking of the bridge across the Tennessee River. He also took part in the siege and capture of Atlanta and many other battles, serving until the close of the war and receiving an honorable discharge. He was married March 24, 1880, in Salem, to Miss Drusilla Gregory, who passed away 21 years ago last January (Jan. 3, 1902). He is survived by three sons, Parvin D., Thomas N., and Roscoe C. The eldest son, Robert (Rothart A.) died a number of years ago (Jan. 12, 1907)...... Glasgow cemetery......Also survived by five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Adaline Heaton of Indianola, Iowa, who is the only surviving member of a family of nine......S.J. Chester and J.M. Gregg only surviving members of company in this county and they attended his funeral.
