MORRISON, Warren James -- Warren James MORRISON, 96, of Fairfield, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A memorial service, with Masonic rites, will be at 1:30 p.m. June 13 at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. The body will be cremated. Private family inurnment will be held in Pittsburg at a later date.

A light luncheon will be at noon June 13 at the church.

Dr. MORRISON was born Dec. 17, 1910, near Pittsburg, the son of James F. and Susannah E. FORBES MORRISON. He married Mary Gertrude AUSTIN May 4, 1934. She died in 2006.

Dr. MORRISON spent his childhood on farms near Keosauqua. He graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1929. Dr. MORRISON taught in rural schools for three years before attending Iowa State University and graduating from The College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery of what is now Des Moines University. He practiced general medicine in Anita for two years and in West Bend for 38 years. Dr. MORRISON took post-graduate training in Amarillo, Texas, Kansas City, Mo., Waterloo and Sioux City. He was a staff member of four hospitals.

He served as chief of staff of Palo Alto County Hospital, chairman of the Palo Alto County Board of Health and county medical examiner. He retired and moved to Fairfield in 1976.

He was a member of Fairfield Lions Club and a 50-year member of the Masons. He was past master of the Blue Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Consistory and KAABA Shrine. He was a life member of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physician, the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association and United Methodist Church, where he served on the board. He also frequently attended the Howard Johnson Coffee Club and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include two sons, Don of Morgantown, W.Va., and Steven of Emmetsburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Craig and Raymond, both of Cresco.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul MORRISON.
