JACOBSEN, Helen -- Helen JACOBSEN, 93, of Oceanside, CA passed away on Feb. 16 at Tri City Hospital Oceanside. She had been able to live in her home until then.
Survivors are daughter Diane SHANNON of Fairfield and son Keith JACOBSEN and wife Sharon of Oceanside. 7 grandchildren: Erin LOFTIS of New Haven, Ind.; Laureen DURFEY, Johnston, IA; Kevin UMLAUF, Idaho Springs, CO; Ron UMLAUF, Blakesburg, IA; Kelly WILLIAMS of Fairfield; Marie MATTINGLY, San Diego and their spouses, and Bren JACOBSEN, San Francisco. Eight great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. One brother Robert SCHMIDT of Placentia, CA.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years John JACOBSEN in 1999 and 1 brother Ralph SCHMIDT.
She was born in 1913 in Chicago, IL to Adolph and Gertrude SCHMIDT. Due to poor economic times of that era she left high school at age 16 and worked as an operator for IL. Bell Telephone Co. until starting a family. She had married John at age 19. Was mostly a homemaker. She later assisted her husband as he maintained 36 apartments in Barrington, IL. After he retired (about age 72) they moved to Oceanside. They were members of the Christian Science Church. In earlier days in Illinois attended a Lutheran church and was in the choir there.
Her pastimes were at younger age, playing piano and til the end crossword puzzles, reading and sending cards to all her 16 grandchildren and their spouses and others for birthdays etc.
For memorial her daughter requests you send or call a greeting or thank you to someone of your choice and encourage your children to do the same.
As per her wishes she will be cremated and memorial may be later for immediate family.
