CALHOUN, Dorothy -- Dorothy CALHOUN, 79, of Keosauqua, died Friday evening, May 25, 2007, at Kavanaugh House Hospice in Des Moines.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Dorothy Louise Calhoun, 79, of Keosauqua, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines.

A private family service will be held in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Harold Schnedler officiating. The body has been cremated.

Memorials to Keosauqua Congregational Church may be mailed to the family at 1518 Broad St., Keosauqua 52565.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Mrs. Calhoun was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Lead, S.D., the daughter of Jess P. and Julia S. LUHTASAARI Morlan. She married H. E. "Cal" Calhoun who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Calhoun moved to Santa Monica, Calif., with her parents in 1940. After marrying, she lived in Fresno, Calif., and Reno, Nev., before settling in Keosauqua in 1960. She was Van Buren County's deputy recorder for 26 years, having retired in 1990.

Mrs. Calhoun was a member of Keosauqua Congregational Church. She had been a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. She was a past president of Van Buren Development Association and Keosauqua Business and Professional Women. She was a member of Van Buren County Republican party, Republican Women, Bentonsport Improvement Association, BeerBarker Unit No. 113 American Legion Auxiliary, Mothers Club of Keosauqua and Van Buren County Genealogical and Historical societies.

Survivors include one son, Dennis "Cal" Calhoun of Keosauqua; one daughter, Karen DeHart and husband William of Des Moines; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Morlan of Torrence, Calif.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.
