CURTIS, Josephine Mae -- Josephine Mae CURTIS, 103, of Ottumwa, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2007.

A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Josephine TEETER CURTIS Memorial Fund at the Fairfield Public Library. Cards and memorials may be sent to 1535 Gilcrest Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823.

Mrs. CURTIS was born Oct. 27, 1903, near Libertyville, the daughter of George B. and Ollie STEELE TEETER. She married Chester CURTIS April 28, 1929, in Agency. He died Sept. 6, 1972.

Mrs. CURTIS lived all her life in Jefferson and Wapello counties. After graduating from Fairfield High School in 1923, she taught in rural schools until she married. She spent her married life on Wapello County farms near Batavia. In 2001, she moved to Pennsylvania Place in Ottumwa.

Mrs. CURTIS taught Sunday school classes for many years and served in various offices at Batavia Methodist Church and with United Methodist Women. While serving as church historian, she co-authored a history of the church from its beginning to 1981, and thereafter annually recorded church events.

She was a member of Helping Hand Club, Our Day Out, Batavia Literary Guild, Women's Club of Jeffreson County, Church Women United of Jefferson County, Association for Retarded Citizens and Fairfield Hospital Auxiliary.

She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting and reading, as well as ocean cruises, bridge and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Ottumwa and Bruce and wife Joy of East Lansing, Mich.; two grandchildren; one son-in-law, Michael ARTHUR; one daughter-in-law, Kathryn VENZ CURTIS; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene GORMAN KNOPP and Rebecca WHEELDON; and two brothers, Earnest and Bernard TEETER.
