DIED.—At Batavia, on the 19th ult., of lung fever, Samuel Hardin, only son of Dr. L. HURST and Maggie HURST, aged 1 year, 7 months, and 7 days.
“Sammy” was an exceedingly bright and interesting little boy, and although so young in years, he had won more friends than many who have reached their three score years and ten. He was always so cheerful and so happy that none could know him but to love him. Even in his last sickness which continued more than four weeks, he was always patient and uncomplaining. More than a year ago his fond parents consecrated him to God in the ordiance [sic] of baptism and hoped that he would become a good and useful man. But God willed it otherwise. He has taken little “Sammy” to himself. What is our present loss in his eternal gain. [sic] “Of such is the kingdom of heaven.” With him the great battle of life has soon ended, but the victory through the merits of a crucified Savior, is none the less certain or complete. Hence his loving parents need not weep as those who have no hope. Although God’s providences are often very dark and mysterious, still he doeth all things well. Little “Sammy” is not dead, but sleepeth. A.A.
