"Fairfield Ledger Weekly", January 28, 1869

DIED.--- Jan. 19, 1880 [sic], at the residence of Dr. N. STEEL in Fairfield, Iowa, of Erysipelas, Miss Emma GILBERT, in the 38th year of her age.

The deceased was born in Ireland, but had for a number of years been a resident of Fairfield and vicinity. She had been a consistent and worthy member of the Presbyterian church of Fairfield for some fifteen years, during which time her walk and conversation was that which became her profession. The grass was never permitted to grow upon the path that led to her closet, for she loved to commune with her God.--- The Bible was the book of books to her, and, its precious truths and promises were cherished in her memory and by frequent reference to it, and much time spend in the persual [sic] of its pages, the doctrines and duties therein laid down were not unknown to her. She feared not death, but on the contrary, seemed to have a presentiment that the year upon which she had so recently entered would be her last. She is not, for the Lord took her. Her sickness was of short duration, and suddenly she was taken from her mourning friends. Yet they mourn not as those who have no hope. X.
