Mon., April 17, 2006, p. 10.Merna Luceil ROBISON, 96, of Brighton, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 16, 2006, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, where she had been a resident for the past several years.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brighton United Church, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.
Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the family present from 7-8 p.m.
A memorial has been established to Brighton United Church.
Mrs. ROBISON was born Aug. 28, 1909, in Brighton, the daughter of Charles H. and Hattie A. Shaffer KESSEL. She married Donald ROBISON Aug. 5, 1928. He died June 19, 1980.
Mrs. ROBISON grew up in the Brighton area and graduated from Brighton High School in 1927.
She farmed with her husband, and they raised purebred Black Angus cattle and Hampshire hogs. She had worked as a school teacher, a bookkeeper at the local elevator and a writer for the local newspaper.
She served on the Hillcrest Cemetery Association Board of Directors for many years, lead [sic] a 4-H club, and was a member of both the Willing Workers Club and the Merry Moderns.
Mrs. ROBISON was a long-time member of Brighton United Church.
Survivors include one sister, Jean SINGLETON, of Washington, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen ROBISON of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Rosalie CORPMAN; one son, Charles Bert ROBISON; one sister, Dorothy FARMER; and one granddaughter.
