"Fairfield Ledger Weekly", May 25, 1881

County Correspondence.
FROM SALINA.

'Editors Ledger:' April 29th, in this place, occurred the death of Mrs. Asa CHILCOTT, one of our early settlers and most estimable women – one who had spent most of her life in this vicinity. Her sickness was of about four week’s duration, and she bore her sufferings patiently and with christian fortitude. Her husband still survives her, as well as four children, and they have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. The funeral occurred April 30th, at her old home, the services being conducted by Rev. WYCOFF. The remains were interred in the family cemetery [Ed. note: Chilcott Cemetery]. Mrs. CHILCOTT had been a member of the M. E. Church for many years – a consistent, exemplary member – and had always taken great interest in the work of the church. She was a kind neighbor, and her services were freely offered whenever there was occasion. She will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends and relatives. J. D. B.
