Painful Death.--- On Thursday morning last, Dec. 17th --- at the house of John V. MYERS --- Miss Elizabeth HUNT was found in convulsions. She was up-stairs at the time, and the noise made by her attracted Mr. MYERS’ attention. Medical assistance was called in, but no relief was given her, and she continued in convulsions until death terminated her existence. She was unconscious all the time. Miss HUNT was about 28 years of age. She has been here at various times during the last seven or eight years, and at the present was visiting friends. We believe she contemplated opening a millinery shop in Fairfield. The testimony of physicians at the coroner’s inquest went to prove that she had died from the effects of strychnine, and the appearance of the body after death condrmed [sic] this testimony. No cause could be assigned why she should poison herself. After a 'post mortem' examination, and the examination of several witnesses, the jury returned a verdict of: “Came to her death from causes unknown to the jury.” One of Miss HUNT’s sisters came here and took the body to Chicago for burial.
