McQuiston Funeral Held in Fairfield

Fairfield, Dec. 30, 1913

The funeral for J.G. McQuiston who was killed instantly by a train Dec. 24, in Keota, Colorado was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of his son Floyd McQuiston on Washington Street.

Mr. McQuiston had been in Keota in the afternoon and as the roads leading to his claim, a mile out of town, were impassable, he started home on a "Speeder", a three-wheeled car used on the railroad tracks. He intended returning in the evening to attend some Christmas exercises.

A fine snow was blowing through the cut. in which the track ran and this is thought what prevented the engineer of the switch engine struck the little car, killing Mr. McQuiston almost instantly.

Note: James G. McQuiston was born in 1851 and burial is at Evergreen Cemetery at Fairfield, Iowa. There is also according to WPA records a Althal McQuiston born 1856 and died Oct. 12, 1891 with burial also at Evergreen Cemetery.
