Joel D. BATES, one of the best known of the older residents of Jefferson County, died at his home in Salina Sat. evening; 78 years of age on Feb. 19, 1916.

Survived by wife and children: George W., Salina; Jerry, Salina; Chas., Nebraska; Mrs. Anna HAWK near Bentonsport, Iowa; Dallas of Fairfield, and Mrs. Vesta HARRIS of Ottumwa; brothers and sisters surviving: Ephriam BATES of Smith Center, Kansas; Henry G. BATES, of Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Willa GRAHAM of Fairfield; Mrs. James LAUNCHBAUGH, of Dresden, Kan.; Mrs. Ellen GINN of Conway, Iowa; and Dr. T. J. BATES of this city.

Funeral Tues. afternoon 2:30 Swedish Lutheran Church. Interment Salina Cemetery.
