GONE TO MEET HIS CREATOR.
An Old Pioneer, living a half mile northeast of Four Corners, passed away February 27.
FOUR CORNERS, March 3 -- Peter M. ANDERSON was born in Sweden Dec. 31, 1812. He was left parentless at the age of 13, and always befriended the orphans, and in the course of his life adopted three children. In 1845 he was married to Miss Sarah SWANSON, and five sons and three daughters blessed the union. May 14, 1849, accompanied by his family, he left his native home to seek his fortunes in the New World. His wife died, and he was again married in 1870....
A large concourse of people was present at the obsequies at the Swedish Lutheran church, of which he was always a consistent member. Rev. John Simpson conducted the funeral rites, text, Psalms 71:20, "Thou which has shewed me great and sore troubles shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth." The wife, one son, and two daughters survive him....
During the four months' passage across the ocean, sixty of the 200 souls on board the vessel perished by the cholera; one of his sons died at Chicago, after which he himself contracted the dreadful scourge and for days was compelled to lie between two stricken victims, who died by his side. The ordeal was terrible indeed. Improving, he resumed his journey and planted his foot on Jefferson County soil, where he has since resided.
