DEATH OF JAMES D. CRAIL, born in Beaver County, Penn., 24 or 27 Mar. 1822 or 1823, died May 12, 1896, at his home southwest of Fairfield. In 1854 his mother and five children removed to Iowa and located on a farm six miles northwest of Fairfield. Married, in Fairfield, 15 Dec. 1861 Miss Elizabeth J. HOLTON, daughter of Alexander and Nancy (SELLERS) HOLTON, both born in Bracken County, Ky.. Mrs. CRAIL's paternal grandfather, Joshua HOLTON, served with distinction in the Revolutionary War, thus entitling his descendants to membership in the various societies. .... Mrs. CRAIL is third in the order of birth of the ten children of her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. CRAIL were the parents of two children: (1) Benjamin Franklin, married Mary E. POULTON; two children -- James and Helen; (2) Matilda, married Bruce RATCLIFF; they reside with Mrs. CRAIL and Mrs. RATCLIFF is a member of the Log Cabin Chapter of the D.A.R.. Methodist Church.

James D. CRAIL was a brother of B.F. CRAIL of this city, also of Mrs. Mary WILLIAMS of Des Moines, Mrs. Cynthia GRAFTON, of Shenandoah, and Mrs. Helen SNODGRASS of Winterset.
