"Fairfield Ledger", May 16, 1888, Pg. 3, Col. 6

DEATH OF CORA B. SHARPE. A telegram received in this city Friday morning brought sad intelligence... the death of Miss Cora B. SHARPE at Quincy, Ill., the previous night. She had been attacked with diphtheria a short time before, but had almost recovered from her illness. Later, however, she suddenly grew much worse with membraneous laryngitis, her throat and entire system being greatly weakened by her previous severe illness. Her condition became very alarming, and she was finally removed to the hospital. A consultation of physicians was held and it was decided that her only hope was in the operation of tracheotomy. She was informed of her condition and the last resort, and was willing to take the chances. The operation was performed, and while it gave temporary relief finally resulted in death.

Miss SHARPE was a student at Gem City Business College. Her age was 20 years and 6 months. She was born in this city, where she had also spent the greater part of her life. She was a handsome, intelligent girl, and had won a wide circle of friendship during her long years of residence here. The remains were brought to this city Saturday night, and the interment took place on Monday, Rev. H. M. Lentz conducting the services. The remains were interred in the City Cemetery. The funeral was quite largely attended.
