A PIONEER WOMAN. Mrs. Susannah PIERCE MENDENHALL was born in Wayne County, Ind., Aug. 23, 1823, and died at the old homestead in this city Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 23, in the 81st year of her age... married Daniel MENDENHALL, who died in 1873, in Wayne Co., Ind., Aug. 25, 1841. The following year they came to Iowa and located at Fairfield, living in a log house on the present site of the Presbyterian Church....

Eight children, four of whom are now living -- Mrs. C. F. GEORGE, Mrs. S. J. MORRIS, L. MENDENHALL of Fairfield, and Mrs. Anna HALL of St. Louis, Mo....
