"Fairfield Tribune", Wed., Oct. 30, 1907, Pg. 6, Col. 2

ASHES OF S. M. LEWIS BURIED. Last Thursday afternoon at Evergreen Cemetery was buried the ashes of the late S. M. LEWIS, a Fairfield resident some 40 years ago. His death occurred in Los Angeles, Calif., last May and the body was cremated and the ashes laid away in the family lot here in the presence of a few relatives and friends.... Among the older residents will be some who will remember the firm of LEWIS & Sons, engaged in the harness, saddlery and hardware business, and of which firm he was a member. Their location for some years was in the building now occupied by the "Tribune". He was married and living in Chicago a number of years and from there went to Los Angeles, Calif., where he died one of the wealthiest merchants of that western city.
