DEATH OF MELCHI SCOTT. The death of Melchi SCOTT occurred in this city Wednesday, December 26th, 1894, of old age, and after a lingering illness. Mr. SCOTT was born in Greene County, Pa., September 15th, 1811. He moved to Iowa in 1860, locating in Fairfield, where he has resided since. He was an excellent mechanic, conducting a blacksmith shop for many years. He was a quiet citizen, a man of strict honesty, and much esteemed and respected by those who were intimate with him. Funeral services were conducted at his late residence by Rev. L. Mendenhall, and the remains were buried in the City cemtery on the day following his death.

DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. As announced last week, Melchi SCOTT, an old and respected citizen of Fairfield, died at his home, after a brief illness of five days, last Wednesday about one o'clock...

He was married to Miss Elizabeth CLOUSE in Martinsburg, Penn., May 16, 1830, who was the mother of 13 children. Five are still living, three girls and two boys. Second wife survives him. Mr. SCOTT was a blacksmith and was an excellent one.... He was one of the original abolitionists and a man of great force of character and rugged honesty. He was a man of good moral character and of most industrious habits....
