Mrs. Mary SHAFFER died early today at the home of her son in Donner's Grove (sic - Downer's Grove), Ill.... Mary Eleanor THOMPSON, daughter of Col. and Mrs. James THOMPSON was born at Harlan, Ohio, Mar. 17, 1842, and came to Fairfield with her parents when a child; married here May 20, 1862, to John Ruth SHAFFER, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. SHAFFER.

Six children: Mrs. Clara BAKER, Miss Genevieve SHAFFER and Miss Helen SHAFFER of Chicago, James Rollin SHAFFER of Donner's Grove, Ill., and Will and Fred who preceded their mother in death. Church of Christ Scientist.... old home at 301 W. Washington St... Also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah TEMPLE of Chester, Vt.... (Bur. Evergreen, Fairfield)
