"Fairfield Tribune", Jan. 2, 1895, Pg. 7, Col. 2

On Wednesday last, Dec. 26, 1894, the people of Fairfield were shocked by the announcement that a former honored resident of this city, George Deaton TEMPLE, had at 1 o'clock that morning died suddenly from hemorrhage of the lungs at his residence, corner of Wade and River Sts., Burlington.

Born at Edwardsville, Ill., Mar. 4, 1827.... When ten years of age was taken to Burlington by his parents who were among the earliest and most noted settlers in that city... George D. TEMPLE attended school in Burlington and assisted his father in the post office. In 1844 he came to Fairfield and filled an important position with the register of the U.S. Land Office... Banking firm of Henn, Williams & Co.... Cashier of the First National Bank of Fairfield.... His brother organized the Bankers' Life Insurance Company of Des Moines... In May 1850, Mr. TEMPLE married Sarah THOMPSON, the eldest daughter of Col. James THOMPSON, that grand old chief among Iowa democrats in the early years of the state.

Leaving Fairfield about five years ago he took his family to Burlington and there again settled in the home of his boyhood... Leaves widow, four sons and two daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Virginia DODGE, and two sons, Ver Planck and Roderick, live in New York City; Mrs. Grace GALLAGHER in Indianapolis, and Bernard and Harry at the family home in Burlington... His death brought deep sorrow to Fairfield, where for over forty years he had lived without reproach... honored, respected and trusted by all who had ever met him....
